Green Ribbon Schools Award application – due March 16

January 22, 2018

Calling All Rhode Island Schools!

Be honored for your efforts to make your school healthy and sustainable!

We are excited to share the opening of the 2017-2018 Green Ribbon Schools Award Program! For the seventh year, the U.S. Department of Education invites state education authorities to nominate schools, early learning centers, districts, and post-secondary institutions that demonstrate progress in three areas or “Pillars:”

1) Reducing environmental impact and costs, encompassing facilities, grounds, energy, waste, water, and transportation matters;
2) Improving the health and wellness of students and staff, encompassing environmental health, nutrition, and outdoors physical activity; and
3) Teaching effective environmental sustainability education.

The RI Department of Education (RIDE) will accept applications from RI schools until March 16, 2018 and will then make its recommendations to the US Department of Education. It’s a great way to showcase and be honored for the great work your school is doing! Awardees have enjoyed significant and well deserved media attention in the past and have used the award to strengthen grant applications.

Check out RIDE’s website for more information about past state honorees and the application process. You can also access the 2017-18 application here on our website. If you’ve read the application in the past be sure to take a look at the new and improved and more user-friendly format this year!

If you are unsure about your school’s eligibility or have questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to Elisabeth Bux at elisabeth@rieea.org. RIEEA is here to help!
