Become a force for nature and a healthy planet by joining the Block Island team this summer!  The work of this position will help to protect and preserve Block Island’s critical habitats, and educate residents and visitors on its importance. This is a seasonal position, starting June 11 through August 31, 2018.  There are four full-time positions, housing may be available.

We are looking for Education & Stewardship Assistants with strong leadership and communication skills to join our team to lead our summer nature programs and walks.  This position works closely with the Block Island staff and is responsible for a variety of stewardship activities in addition to public outreach.   The candidate will lead nature walks, monitor preserves, maintain walking trails, staff the visitor center and assist in biological monitoring and other scientific activities. We appreciate collaborative approaches and encourage innovative ideas and recommendations. The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes:
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to deal with the general public in a friendly, outgoing & professional manner.
• Knowledge of Block Island community preferred.
• Knowledge of natural sciences, ornithology and/or botany skills.
• Ability to perform trail maintenance and remove invasive plants.
