Position Summary:

SRICD is a small non-profit / quasi-public organization with a mission focused on supporting conservation efforts of Rhode Island farmers and woodlot owners in Kent and Washington Counties (sricd.org).  SRICD accomplishes its mission by providing technical guidance in natural resource conservation, educational opportunities for its constituencies, liaison with programs and opportunities provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and other partnerships throughout the state.

SRICD seeks a District Manager who will build community-based conservation programs to fulfill the organizational mission, network and partner with organizations with similar and complementary missions, oversee office management and program marketing, promote the value of SRICD to municipalities and legislators through consistent outreach, develop board of directors’ participation, seek additional funding sources, and manage a small staff.

Principal Tasks and Responsibilities of District Manager will include (but not limited to):
  • Manage existing conservation programs and agreements;
  • Work with SRICD’s board of directors to further the organizational mission;
  • Oversee SRICD employees;
  • Network and outreach with/to key partners & political decision-makers;
  • Work closely with the two other RI Conservation Districts;
  • Develop project ideas, seek funding sources, write grant proposals;
  • Establish and present annual budgets;
  • Attend monthly board meetings.
Candidates for this project must be self-motivated, reliable, oriented for partnership / be a team-player, feel comfortable interacting with clients, partners and political leaders, show creativity and attention to detail, and be flexible.  Prior experience with organizational management and good communication skills and knowledge of natural resource conservation issues are preferred. Experience with grant-writing is desirable. Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree accepted; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Special Considerations:
  • Office:  Primary work location will be SRICD’s office at URI East Farm, Building #50 in Kingston, RI. Must be able to attend evening and weekend meetings/workshops as needed.
  • Transportation to meetings:  Personal vehicle will be used by District Manager.  Mileage is reimbursable.
  • Computer & software: District Manager will expertly use MS Word and Excel. MS Publisher a plus.
  • Potential for Growth: Weekly hours can increase with increased program funding.
